Privacy Policy for Portals

Portals ("the app") is a photo-stylizing app. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. It is written to be read, not to hide things.
The short version
- Portals stores your photos only on your device. We do not run any servers and we never receive your photos, your API key, or any account information.
- To transform a photo, the app sends that photo and a style prompt directly from your device to Google's Gemini API, using an API key that you provide. Google processes the image and returns the result. This is the only time your photos leave your device.
- The app has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising.
What the app stores on your device
- Photos you import and the stylized versions Portals creates. These are kept in the app's private storage. If you choose to save a result to your photo library, it is added there using the system photo picker.
- Worlds and stats — the collections you create and simple counts of images made — stored in the app's local settings.
- Your Gemini API key, stored securely in the device Keychain.
You can remove all of this at any time from Settings → Data → Delete all data (photos, worlds, and stats), and Settings → Gemini API Key → Clear (your key). Deleting the app also removes everything.
What is sent off your device
When you transform a photo, the app makes a direct network request from your device to Google's Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) containing:
- the photo you selected, and
- a fixed text prompt describing the chosen style.
Your API key is sent to Google to authenticate this request. Portals does not route this through any server we operate — the request goes straight from your device to Google. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy:
